"A Night in May with the Fairy and her Candle"

Second book of the series "Tales from the Misty Island"

A story of love and self-sacrifice, of self-discovery. The Candlelight Fairy (this is a profession, not a name) is actually called Mesechka. Mesechka was born in the month of May, when the mists sleep and the flowers bloom with a wonderful fragrance. The little fairy has her own fluffy-shaggy-sparkling candle, as well as a dainty-moon-silver-glittering friend - the moonbeam Fengarios, or simply Fengi. Mesechka (the Fairy), Fengi and the Candle are living a completely careless life and enjoying each other's pleasant company, until one day... There is always one day, wackier than the rest, when everything can go wrong.

Description

There is always one day, wackier than the rest, when everything can go wrong. Dripping your new outfit, tearing your pants while jumping a fence, breaking your mother's favorite vase... or bumping into the world's smallest witch with the most sensitive nose and the BIGGEST badness! Mesechka also experiences such a "witchy" encounter. Unfortunate indeed, because just imagine what such a small and cursed villain is capable of.

And here we are again on the Misty Island!

This wonderful island is home to all kinds of wonderful places: from cities that rise just like ours, to the fairytale kingdom of the forest queen, the prickly spirits, the goblins and the rescue rabbits with their carrot-piercers. A kingdom we were introduced to in the previous book in the series - "Nia and the Goblin's Treasure".

And now we will go to another magical corner of the Misty Island. We will go to where the little fairy Mesechka lives. Mesechka is a fairy with a profession - the profession of candle-fairy. Mesechka has a sweet candle and a favorite moonbeam called Fengarios, or Fengi for short. Fengi is her best friend in the world and will stop at nothing to help Mesechka when she is in trouble. But troubles sometimes follow the heels of the little fairies... Fengi is called to save his fairy and goes on a real march against the evil of the tiniest witch in the world. A witch as small in stature as big in malice.

In his adventure, Fengi will encounter a horribly poisonous mushroom, three old rosy-cheeked fates, the ancient forest itself, and a fiery monstrosity that will force him to sacrifice himself for the most important thing in the world.

Fengi will learn that the eternal truth of life exists and is called love.

The first edition of the book was published by the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad and in 2012 the edition was distributed free of charge among Bulgarians abroad.

There is also a stage play based on the story, production by the State Puppet Theater "Dora Gabe" - Dobrich.

Fengarios is a moonbeam, "all silver, both old and young, eternal as the forest." He has watched over the Candle Fairy ever since she was born, but he can only do so at night. And the young girl one day carelessly bumps into an old witch who casts a curse on her. Now Fengi, as we call himself, must embark on a perilous journey to save the fairy he actually loves…

This December, the holidays will be even brighter for fans of children's writer Vesela Flamburari and her work. Not only did we get a gorgeous new edition of the first Mina book, but we're also back on Misty Island! Who would have guessed that after "Nia and the Goblin's Treasure" there would follow... "A Night in May with the Fairy and her Candle"! Yes, the first edition from 2012 with the illustrations by Radostina Neykova was a real library rarity back in the day, and today it is completely undiscoverable and... more precious than a goblin's treasure. It was high time this story returned!

I found a place to thank Vesela Flamburari again. I will briefly tell how I found her.
I'm a big fan of the book-games genre, and I'm also a collector. I was looking for a hellishly rare title, she contacted me and that's how I got a very rare book-game, compared to which the books of "Gema" are downright massive.
Of course, we texted each other, although this style of communication was a bit unfamiliar to me.
It reminded me of the correspondence I still have from my grandfather with a friend from Venezuela, when letters and pigeons were almost the only means of communication.
Gentle, beautiful and above all friendly writing.
